Jungle fever

I've been walking for over three hours when Nom (at least, that's what I think is his name) tells me the village is only a couple of minutes away. Thank god, it's been raining and in this heat I've been sweating like a pig, so it will be nice to have a shower and put on some dry clothes. And then I realise, I didn't bring any dry clothes, except some underwear. And that shower? Don't get me started...
While I sit a table with my travelling companion, who is even wetter than me, Nom is making dinner. "Extra spicy please", I say to him with a grin, "I like my food hot hot hot!!". I wish I just kept my mouth shut, because when dinner is served, he points out one of the dishes and says to me: "Nice and spicy for you". How I regretted my words, the only way to relieve my burning mouth from the fire that's raging inside is a shot of Nom's homemade 'junglewater' (Thai sake). Tears burn in my eyes and my nose is running, but I manage to tel him how much I like the dish. He looks at me and starts laughing so loud, even the crickets go quiet.
After dinner it's time to go to bed, there is no electricity here, and nothing to do. Also, everyone is tired from the walk. Nom shows me my hut. It's made of bamboo and leaves, and it beats sleeping outside in in a hammock, but that's about all I can think that could be positive. I fall asleep quickly, but at one in the morning I wake up and realise I have to pee. No way I'm going outside this hut by myself, I'm in the middle of the jungle, so I decide to ignore the feeling and try to sleep some more. Eventually I see the sunlight creeping in to my hut, so I jump up and sprint to the so called toilet just in time...
After a two hour walk, we get back to the camp and the only thing I can think about is how nice it's going to be to have a shower and jump into the pool at my resort. I get into an airconditioned minivan with some other people (who by the looks of it could smell me from a mile away) and take out my ipod. All of a sudden, the tour guide (obviously an evil man) turns around, smiles and says: "So who's ready for our visit to the old railway and the bridge over the river Kwai?"
I cry.
